Breast Lift Austin
A mastopexy, or breast lift, is a cosmetic-surgery procedure that restores sagging breasts to a perkier and more youthful shape and position. During the procedure, breast tissues are tightened and excess skin is removed in order to reshape and support the new breast contours.
Breast implants may be placed for breast augmentation at the time of a breast lift to provide increased cleavage and more fullness of the breast; this combination procedure is known as augmentation mastopexy. A breast lift may also be combined with an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, as part of a Mommy Makeover.
Why Do Breasts Sag?
A woman’s breasts are inclined to lose shape and firmness as she ages. Loss of skin elasticity in the breasts can result from:
- Weight fluctuations
Breast-lift surgery can better support your breasts, but it cannot increase their size or projection. Consider having a breast-augmentation surgery performed with your breast lift if you want your breasts to look fuller and more lifted.

Ideal Candidates for a Breast Lift
You are an ideal candidate for a breast lift if you:
- Are physically healthy and maintain a stable weight
- Are a non-smoker
- Are bothered by the feeling that your breasts have begun to sag
- Have pendulous breasts or breasts with a flatter elongated shape
- Have nipples that fall below the breast crease when unsupported
- Have downward-pointing nipples and areolae
- Have asymmetrical breasts
The Breast-Lift Procedure
A variety of incision patterns and techniques are available for your breast-lift procedure. The technique chosen will be determined on your breast size and shape, the size and position of your areolae, the degree to which your breasts sag, and your skin quality and elasticity.
First, anesthesia will be administered to ensure that you are comfortable through the procedure and do not feel any pain.
Next, the incision will be made. There are three incision patterns commonly followed: around the areola; around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease; and around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease.
After the incisions are made, the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped in an attempt to improve breast contours and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a more natural and youthful height. Excess breast skin is removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity.
The remaining skin is tightened as the incisions are closed. Sutures are placed deep within the breast tissue to create and support the newly transformed breasts. Sutures, skin adhesives, or surgical tape may be used to close the skin. The results of the surgery are immediately noticeable.
After Your Breast Lift
You may be asked to wear an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal. A small thin tube could be temporarily placed under your skin to drain excess blood or fluid that may collect. Your results will be fully visible as soon as post-surgical swelling goes down.
